dumb.

I had every intention of properly maintaining this blog with a biweekly post. I wouldn't allow myself to post everyday when I first signed on for this, but spring break happened, and school projects flooded into my life way more than necessary.

Needless to say, in the past two months I have produced a few pieces of art that I am very proud of. I turned my picture with all of the antique cameras on my page into a large painting. I'm still not sure what I think about it. I don't typically paint in that style. Graffiti is in the works for a repetition drawing I did in class. It should be interesting.

Recent ventures:
Three weeks ago, Mari Cobb and I decided that we needed to get out of St. Louis (at 2am). We picked up our cameras and arrived in downtown St. Louis around 7am. The trip there was filled with early 90's music that lives up to its' full potential only while being obnoxiously blasted and screamed by two delirious girls. FUN. We were there extremely early on a Sunday. Nothing was open. Nothing was happening. We went to the arch. eh. It was not a lovely day for pictures. The rain teased us with light sprinkles the entire day.

Once a couple of stores opened, one caught our eye the most. UM+A (Urban Materials and Acessories). UM+A is a cute modern store that offers interesting decor for homes, workplaces, etc. In all honestly, what caught my attention the most was their logo (graphic design nerd. yes, i know). Its' cute modern flare was adorable, so naturally we stayed in this shop for longer than average.

I had a few questions about the sculptures, which turned into a long conversation with a man named Mike Roberts. Mike is also a graphic designer, and is applying to be a creative art director somewhere in St. Louis. The three of us talked about grad school, jobs in the art and advertising field, and local art. He gave us directions to "Paint Louis", a ridiculous graffiti wall that stretches about half a mile, and is accepted as a work of art. Therefore, it is legal to spray paint here! It was fun. We also were told to go to this great shopping center next to Washington University that definitely survives off of college students. Vintage Records and nice thrift stores were the best parts about this place.

We also droves to Illinois on accident.
And eating a corn dog for breakfast is a bad, bad idea (even if it's only $1).

Well, I guess this is it for a while. I'm leaving for the Tampa Project on the 23rd, and I won't be back until july 28th!

Kim Vickrey was right.

My graphic design professor said that she won't take pictures at weddings. I feel like I now have a better understanding of how she came to that decision. Matt and Merry, newlyweds from Saturday, invited me to share their special day and to take pictures with the photographers. I always had it in my head that being a wedding photographer was something I would enjoy, but let's face it, I don't want/need that responsibility. Here are a few mistakes I made throughout the day:

1. I wore 3-4 inch heels. IDIOT.
2. I banked too heavily on the sunshine for my photographs, but the sunshine never came.
3. I was too afraid to simply ask the other photographers to move when they were in my shot. (now I'm having tons of fun editing them out.)
4. I should have switched lenses more.

I learned a lot from this experience and am very thankful for the opportunity I had. Matt and Merry were such a blessing to be around.

lets begin, shall we?

After much time and consideration and a few failed attempts, Cassette Tape Prints has become the official name for my photography and graphic design work. I'm thinking a logo is in the near future, along with a better template for this mundane excuse for a blog. Be prepared for the random. My mind leaps from one idea to the next in about .2343 seconds, and the end product typically portrays that.

I created a flickr account as well, and am in the process of uploading images.
